Green Caddis Adult

The green caddisfly adult (aka green sedge adult), as you would expect, has a green body with gray or brown mottled wings. Occasionally, they have gold specks. Most are size 16, though they can range from size 14 to size 18, depending on the species.

The females dive to the stream bottom to deposit their eggs, then resurface and drift downstream. They will continue to drift for some distance, eventually either dying or flying away to repeat the process. Also, they can crawl along the surfaces of rocks to the bottom of the stream to lay their eggs, in which case they will still return to the surface and drift.

Presentation:

For mimicking the diving caddisflies, wet the fly, add an appropriate amount of weight, allow the fly to sink, and allow it to swing downstream and re-surface. Alternatively, fish the fly dry, imitating the flies that have re-surfaced, and are drifting on the top of the water. However, this method is probably less effective. This is because the females may not spend much time on the surface, since they are saturated because of their time spent under the water.
