Legislation has formally introduced legislation to prevent the United States Army Corps of Engineers from installing permanent blockades along the Cumberland River.  U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power made the announcement recently. U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander is also in support of the ban.

This effort by the Corps of Engineers could restrict public access to the fishing waters below 10 dams on the Cumberland River. The plan is to construct buoy line barriers which are a series of floating barrels connected to cables across the river.
