Fly Fishing For Trout on the New River -No Smallies!

The New River Trail and other parts of the New River in Virginia is an excellent area to fish for small mouth bass as well as an occasional striper, or muskie. Mike Smith MSmith@swva.net from Grassey Creek Outfitters, offers float trips down the New River. He recommends big streamers and poppers to mimic the shad in April and May, moving to all top water in July. He also recommends heavy #7 or #8 rods with floating line and and 7 1/2 foot leaders.
